Which to Use, and When
Scenario: Taking a late-night cab alone
WhatsApp Live Location to a family member before you get in. Takes 10 seconds and they can track you door to door.
Scenario: Traveling solo to a new city
Raksha family circle for continuous passive sharing, so your family always knows you're safe without you having to send updates.
Scenario: A day trip where family wants to see where you are
Google Maps location share — set it for the duration of the trip, works without them needing any extra app.
Scenario: Sending a child to school or tuition
Raksha family circle — always-on, location history visible, and you get an alert if they leave an unexpected area.
Scenario: Elderly parent traveling for a medical appointment
Raksha family circle — resistant to battery optimisation, with location history so you can see their route even if they forget to call.
Why Location Sharing Stops Working (and How to Fix It)
The most common complaint: "I shared my location but it stopped updating." This almost always comes down to OEM battery optimisation on Indian phones.
Xiaomi / Redmi
Settings → Apps → [WhatsApp or Maps] → Battery Saver → No restrictions. Also: Security app → Battery → App Battery Saver → set app to "No restrictions".
Motorola
Settings → Apps → [app] → Battery → Unrestricted. Motorola's Clean Master feature may still kill background apps — disable it.
Samsung
Settings → Device Care → Battery → Background usage limits → uncheck the app. Or add the app to "Never Sleeping Apps".
Realme / OnePlus
Settings → Battery → Background Power Consumption → find the app → set to "Allow running in background".
A Simple Habit That Keeps Your Family Calm
You don't need to share your location all the time. Even a once-daily "I'm here" location message on WhatsApp, or keeping Raksha running in the background, significantly reduces family anxiety and creates a safety net for genuine emergencies.
Minimum viable safety setup
- Install Raksha and add one family member as a guardian
- Enable Google Find My Device on your phone
- Share WhatsApp Live Location when in an unfamiliar place at night
- Keep location ON (not battery saving mode) when traveling
