Why This Is Easy to Forget
Moving day comes with a long list of things to handle — utilities, address updates, packing — and a safe zone set up months or years earlier isn't usually top of mind. The result is a zone that keeps monitoring an empty house or someone else's new home, quietly generating meaningless or missing alerts until someone notices.
What to Update After a Move
Move or recreate the "Home" safe zone to the new address, rather than leaving the old one active
Delete the old address zone entirely if it no longer serves any purpose — don't just leave it running alongside the new one
Update any zones tied to nearby places that changed too — a new local grocery store, gym, or family member's house within safe zone range
If children changed schools as part of the move, update that zone as well, not just the home one
Do This Before Moving Day, Not After
Setting up the new zone slightly early, even before the move is complete, means the family isn't left without arrival alerts during the transition period — the old zone can be removed the day the move is actually done, rather than the new one being an afterthought weeks later.
