The Circle Belongs to the Family, Not to One Phone
A family circle is tied to the account that created it, not the physical device — so a new phone for the admin doesn't mean starting over. Signing in on the new phone with the same account brings the whole circle, its members, and its safe zones along automatically.
Passing Admin to Someone Else Is a Different Move
Sometimes it's not a new phone but a new person who should be managing the circle — a parent stepping back and an older child taking over, for instance. That's a role change within the circle rather than a device change, and worth doing deliberately so everyone knows who to go to if a safe zone needs updating or someone needs to be added.
Check the Small Things That Are Easy to Forget
After a handoff, it's worth a quick look at who has guardian permissions, whether safe zone names still make sense to whoever's now managing them, and whether the notification settings match what the new admin actually wants to see. None of this is urgent, but a five-minute check avoids small mismatches later.
Nothing About the Rest of the Family Changes
Everyone else in the circle keeps seeing what they always saw — a change in who administers the circle doesn't touch how location sharing, safe zones, or check-ins work for anyone else in it. It's a background change, not one the rest of the family needs to do anything about.
