How to Set Up Emergency Contacts
on Your Android Phone in India
If you're in an accident and unconscious, your phone is locked — but emergency info like your blood group, allergies, and next of kin can be visible to first responders without anyone needing your PIN. Here's how to set that up in 5 minutes.

What Is an ICE Contact?
ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency." The idea started with paramedics who would check a phone's contact list for someone labelled "ICE" to call when the patient was incapacitated. Android has since built this concept directly into the operating system — no unlock needed.
On modern Android phones, you can add:
Emergency contacts (name + phone number)
Blood type
Medications and allergies
Medical conditions
Personal message (e.g. "Diabetic — check bag for insulin")
All of this is visible on the lock screen — no PIN, pattern, or fingerprint required.
How to Set It Up on Your Android Phone
The path differs slightly by brand. Here's how to do it on the most common phones in India.
Stock Android / Android 12+

- Tap "Add information" to add medical details
- Tap "Add contact" to add emergency contacts

Xiaomi / MIUI

What to Include in Your Emergency Information
Blood type
Critical for emergency transfusions. If you don't know it, get a blood test — most labs in India charge ₹100–200.
Allergies
Especially medication allergies — some anaesthetics or pain relievers can cause dangerous reactions. Include food allergies if severe.
Medical conditions
Diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy, heart conditions — note anything that affects how first responders should treat you.
Current medications
Blood thinners, insulin, antiepileptics — these interact with emergency treatments. List generic names, not just brand names.
2 emergency contacts
Add two people — a spouse or parent plus one backup. If one doesn't answer, the second gets the call.
Personal note
Optionally: "Diabetic — check bag for glucose tablets" or "On blood thinners — avoid aspirin" can save critical time.
Add ICE to Your Contact Name (Older Phones)
If your phone doesn't have a built-in emergency info screen, use the old method: add contacts with "ICE" or "ICE 1" before the name.
How to add ICE contacts:
- Open Contacts → Add new contact
- Name: ICE 1 — Amma (Mother)
- Add the phone number
- Repeat for a second contact: ICE 2 — Husband, etc.
Emergency responders, doctors, and police know to search for "ICE" when a phone is found with an unresponsive owner.
Add a Safety Layer with Raksha
Emergency info on the lock screen handles the scenario where you can't communicate. Raksha handles the scenario where you need to actively alert someone.
You're in an accident, unconscious
→ Lock screen emergency info — first responder calls your ICE contact
You feel unsafe and need help urgently
→ Raksha SOS button — sends your live location to all family circle members instantly
Family member not responding or location unknown
→ Raksha family circle — see last known location, trigger remote ring
Phone lost or stolen
→ Raksha remote lock — device locked before anyone accesses your data
Both work together — set up both. The lock screen info works when you can't operate the phone; Raksha SOS works when you can.
