Kumbh Mela draws crowds measured in tens of millions across days. At that scale, official crowd management and clear family planning both matter, and a phone app is only ever one small part of staying together.

Set the Right Expectations First
A gathering of this size is not comparable to a local festival ground. Network towers get overwhelmed by the sheer number of phones in one area, official volunteers and lost-and-found camps are usually the fastest way to reconnect with someone who is genuinely lost in the crowd, and no app can substitute for following the safety instructions given by event organizers and police on the ground. What Raksha and a good plan can do is reduce how often your family actually needs those emergency resources, and make reconnecting faster when you do get a signal.
Before You Go
Write each person's name and a family contact number on a card they carry
Paper does not depend on a charged phone or a network signal, and it is often what a volunteer or police officer uses first to reunite a separated family member.
Agree on a specific, well-known meeting point, and a backup
Pick landmarks that are marked on official maps and announced by organizers, such as a named ghat or a numbered sector, rather than something only your family would recognize.
Test SOS with every adult and older child before the trip
This is not the place to be discovering how a safety feature works for the first time.
Carry a power bank per two people, minimum
Heavy phone use for calls, photos, and navigation over several days will drain batteries faster than an ordinary trip.
Note the nearest lost-and-found or help desk location for your camp or sector
This is the official channel, and it exists for exactly this kind of situation. Know where it is before you need it.
If the App Shows No Signal
Expect this. Dense crowds routinely overload local network towers, and Raksha's location will simply resume updating once a phone reconnects, whether that is a few minutes later or after moving away from the most congested area. Do not treat a signal gap here the way you would at home. Head for your agreed meeting point or the nearest help desk rather than trying to keep calling on a network that is temporarily saturated.
Physical Safety Comes First
None of this replaces following crowd control instructions from police and event volunteers, staying in designated areas, and avoiding the densest parts of the crowd with young children or elderly family members if you can help it. A family plan supports the trip. It does not substitute for the judgment of the people managing the event on the ground.
