Do This the Night Before
Set the Safe Zone on the new school
A new school means a new address — an old zone from a previous school won't fire correctly, so this needs setting up fresh, not assumed to carry over.
Confirm the phone is fully charged and battery optimization is off
A first-day phone that dies by lunch defeats the entire point — check this the night before, not in the rush of the morning.
Walk through what an arrival alert will look like
Knowing what a normal "reached school" notification looks like helps you tell a real problem apart from ordinary first-day nerves.
Agree on what happens if the bus or transport route is unfamiliar
A new route means an unfamiliar path on the map for the first few days — expect this and don't read an unfamiliar route as a wrong turn.
Expect the First Few Days to Be Slightly Noisy
A new building, a large campus, or an unfamiliar drop-off point can cause the safe zone to behave a little inconsistently at first — a slightly wider radius for the first week, tightened once you see how the location actually behaves around the new school, avoids either missed alerts or false ones during the settling-in period.
The Bigger Picture
The app answers exactly one question well — did they arrive — and it's worth not asking it to do more than that on an emotionally loaded day. The rest of first-day anxiety is normal and worth managing the way any parent would, arrival confirmation or not.
